2011
Great Car Sweepstakes

Convened by event chair Cynthea Preston, a prime rib dinner was served to club members, spouses and the 25 Great Car finalists selected at last week’s meeting. This evening’s program was the exciting finale to our annual major fundraising event.

The program was emceed by Cynthea Preston and the always entertaining Past Club President Bob Taylor. Among items of note in the proceedings:

• To the extent semi-finalists were present, each was interviewed in 1 to 25 order, determining how they obtained tickets, their town of residence, if they were hoping for cash or the car, and other information.

• The Club’s leading ticket sellers were recognized: Cefalu, 51; Goshorn, 67; Huckaby at 78; Upton at 81; and Kingderb with a whopping 310 tickets sold.

• Contributors to the Club’s success with our 2011 Great Car event were recognized:

    • South Tahoe Refuse, for handling the mailings via the trash bills.
    • Redwood Printing for the tickets and mailings.
    • The business ticket coupon partners: Edgewood and Lake Tahoe golf courses; Tahoe Keys Deli, Passaretti’s, Blue Water Bistro, Nepheles Restaurant..
    • Cardinale Motors, for providing a great price on a new car and handling the key details.
    • Harrah’s, for providing a Great Cat final prime rib dinner for the event!

• Bob Taylor explained the process rules to the semi-finalists.

In the end, key #23, owned by Julie Pettitt (ticket sold by Cynthea Preston), was the successful key. Julie tried her key in the new Toyota Tacoma’s lock. It turned, the door opened and car’s alarm and lights signaled her as the winner.

Once the excitement settled, Julie was asked to draw the name for the $1,000 second place prize from the remaining 24 contestants, and John Carlson’s name was drawn.

Finally, as is our tradition, a third drawing of numbered raffle tickets sold at the door for this event netted our club’s own Lorraine Leonard the $200 prize as the winner.

Sum: A great evening was had by all, and congratulations and thank you to event chair Cynthea, club members, business partners, and all who purchased ticket in support of our club!
